Celebrate Mother's Day with Palos Verdes Symphonic Band

The Palos Verdes Symphonic Band will present its annual Mother’s Day Concert, A Mother’s Day Tribute to Maestro Richard Schwalbe, on Sunday, May 8th at 5:00 PM. The concert will be held indoors in the Frances Young Hall at the South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Boulevard, in the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
The concert will be conducted by acting director Christine Hayes and guest conductor Randy Schwalbe, the son of Maestro Schwalbe, who was the band’s music director from 1973 to 2005. The band will play a number ofMaestro Schwalbe’s favorites: El Relicario by Jose Padilla, Amparito Roca by Jamie Texidor, España Cañi by Pascual Marquina, and Dixieland Jam, arranged by Bob Lowden. Selections from musical theater include Oklahoma by Richard Rogers and Cole Porter on Broadway, arranged by Warren Barker. The band will also play music by Percy Grainger.
Band member soloists will include Eileen Walpole on flute, Brian Smith on French horn, and Kai Nakkim on clarinet.
Tickets are only $10 each for adults, with free admission for children 12 years of age and under, and are available in the Botanic Garden courtyard just prior to concert time.
The Palos Verdes Symphonic Band, under the direction of David Stanton, consists of 60 local musicians dedicated since 1962 to bringing the best in concert band music to the South Bay community.
