Celebrate Mother's Day with Palos Verdes Symphonic Band

The Palos Verdes Symphonic Band will present its annual Mother’s Day Concert, Mostly Movie Music for Moms, on Sunday, May 10th at 5:00 PM indoors in the Frances Young Hall at the South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Boulevard in the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

Included will be John Williams’ title music from the movie “Catch Me If You Can.”  Its solo saxophone part will be played by Jay Mason, who teaches at California State University Long Beach, directs its critically acclaimed Saxophone Ensemble, plays in Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, and is active in Southern California studio work and musical theatre.

Kim Bell, the band’s principal flutist, will solo in Stephen Bulla’s  “Rhapsody for Flute.” Other works will include selections from “The Sound of Music,” “Porgy and Bess,” and the movies of Walt Disney, with additional compositions by Irving Berlin, Percy Grainger, and John Williams.

The Palos Verdes Symphonic Band, under the direction of David Stanton, consists of 60 local musicians dedicated since 1962 to bringing the best in concert band music to the South Bay community.

Tickets are only $9 each for adults, with free admission for children 12 years of age and under, and are available in the Botanic Garden courtyard just prior to concert time.
