Jay Mason will play the solo saxophone part in John Williams’ title music from the movie “Catch Me If You Can.” Jay Mason teaches at California State University Long Beach, directs its critically acclaimed Saxophone Ensemble, plays in Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, and is active in Southern California studio work and musical theatre.
Kim Bell, the band’s principal flutist, will solo in Stephen Bulla’s “Rhapsody for Flute.” Kim is an accomplished flutist, formerly with the Seattle Symphony and currently in the South Bay.
Other works will include selections from “The Sound of Music,” “Porgy and Bess,” and the movies of Walt Disney, with additional compositions by Irving Berlin, Percy Grainger, and John Williams.
The Palos Verdes Symphonic Band, under the direction of David Stanton, consists of 60 local musicians dedicated since 1962 to bringing the best in concert band music to the South Bay community.
