Celebrate the season with the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band

Come celebrate the season with the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band, which will present its annual Holiday Concert on Sunday, December 6th at 5:00 PM in the Frances Young Hall at the South Coast Botanic Garden, 26300 Crenshaw Boulevard, in the Palos Verdes Peninsula.  The concert theme is A Count Basie Holiday Celebration, and the band will feature a medley of his selections, with guest artist Bob Leatherbarrow on drums.  In keeping with this theme, Daryl Porter, both manager of the William James “Count” Basie Trust and president of the Rheuben Allen Education Foundation, will present a musical instrument from the Count Basie Young Artists Line to a deserving young musician.  The instrument is given by the Rheuben Allen Education Foundation and the Palos Verdes Symphonic Band.

The program consists of traditional winter, Christmas, and Hanukkah selections.  Accompanied by the band, Mr. Stanton will narrate the poem "The Night before Christmas" by composer Randol Alan Bass.  A Leroy Anderson holiday favorite is also programmed.

Tickets are only $10 each, with free admission for children 12 years of age and under, and are available at the Botanic Garden just prior to concert time.

The Palos Verdes Symphonic Band, under the direction of David Stanton, consists of 60 local musicians dedicated since 1962 to bringing the best in concert band music to the South Bay community.  For more information, you may call the band at 310-792-8286 or visit www.pvsband.org.
